Texas Sage, also known as Texas ranger or barometer bush, is a hardy, drought-tolerant shrub native to the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. It is widely valued in landscaping for its silvery-gray foliage and vibrant blooms, which range in color from lavender to deep purple. The plant typically grows between 5 to 8 feet tall and wide, forming a dense, rounded shape that requires minimal maintenance. One of its most striking features is its ability to produce an explosion of flowers after periods of high humidity or rain—hence the nickname "barometer bush."

This evergreen shrub thrives in full sun and well-drained soils, making it ideal for xeriscaping and low-water gardens. It is not only heat- and drought-resistant but also deer-resistant and generally pest-free. Texas Sage is often used in hedges, borders, or as a standalone accent plant due to its attractive color contrast and resilience. While pruning is not required, occasional shaping can enhance its form. Its ability to survive and flourish in harsh environments has made it a favorite among gardeners seeking beauty with low upkeep.
